Vicky Kaushal is currently riding high on the wave of success with the commendable performance of his film Sam Bahadur, which hit the screens in December 2023. The Hindi language Biography Drama centered around the life of Sam Manekshaw, one of the most decorated Indian army officers and the first to achieve the rank of Field Marshal after over four decades of dedicated service, has not only resonated with audiences but has also earned critical acclaim for Kaushal’s portrayal. As accolades continue to pour in for Sam Bahadur, Kaushal has already gearing up for his next project, the eagerly anticipated film – Chhava.

Recently, Kaushal shared a sneak peek of his preparations for Chhava on his Instagram story. In the photo, he appears muscular, donning a charcoal grey T-shirt, a black headband, and a thick beard with a mustache. The caption reads, “Chava.”

Take a look at it here:

Chhava is directed by filmmaker Laxman Utekar, known for movies like Kriti Sanon starrer Mimi (2021), Luka Chuppi (2019) and more.

Utekar and Vicky Kaushal will work together once again after their previous venture, the comedy romance Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023). It also featured Sara Ali Khan, Sushmita Mukherjee, Akash Khurana, and Atul Tiwary in significant roles.

The upcoming film, Chhava, is reported to be a period drama, where Kaushal will share the screen with Rashmika Mandanna. According to sources, Kaushal is set to portray the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the eldest son of the Maratha Empire’s founder, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film is expected to delve into Sambhaji Maharaj’s bravery, sacrifice, and wartime strategies while incorporating an emotional love story between him and his wife.

As for the leading lady, Rashmika Mandanna, in the film, her most recent release, Animal, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, competed with Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur in December. The actress has received widespread acclaim for her role in the blockbuster movie.

Rashmika Mandanna was the apparent first choice for her role and will reportedly undergo voice coaching to embody her historical character, while Vicky Kaushal is training in sword fighting, horseback riding, and archery.

Before these, Kaushal had previously shared a couple of images from the set of Chhava, calling it the “biggest action sequence of my career so far”.

Chava is also anticipated to be the most expensive project from Maddock Films so far, mostly known for its modest-budget films like Hindi Medium, Stree, Luka Chuppi, and Bhediya. This also marks Maddock Films’ entry into historical projects. The movie will also mark the first collaboration between Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna and will also feature actor Akshaye Khanna.
