With the advent of technology, cyber-crimes are at an all time high nowadays. The cyber criminals have devised a lot of ways to fraud people for money, going to unbelievable lengths for the sake of some quick wealth. The latest victim of a major scam is veteran Malayalam cinema actress Maala Parvathi, who reportedly had an encounter with digital scammers. Here’s all you need to know about the incident. Sharing the incident, the actress herself revealed that the scammers posed as Mumbai Police officials and tried to extort money from her. Maala Parvathi was busy with the shoot of a Tamil film in Madurai when she received a call on a Sunday afternoon.

In the call, which was reported to be attempted by the scammers, she was accused of an involvement in drug smuggling. According to their claims, she had sent a package from Mumbai to Taiwan, which was seized by the authorities and consisted of a passport, credit card, laptop and 200 grams of MDMA.

She was then connected to someone pretending to be an official of the Mumbai Police, going as far to show her fake IDs from the Mumbai Branch and even misusing her Aadhaar card details to convince Maala of the whole lie.

When she conversed with the fake officer on the phone, he told her around 12 bank accounts were activated under her name and that she is a victim of a money laundering scam. Initially, she was almost convinced, but then she noticed something after the call was over. She found that the Ashoka Pillar was missing from the ID of the officer.

It prompted Maala Parvathi to carry out a research on Google and she discovered that the whole thing is a big scam. So, when her manager tried to contact the caller again, there was no response from them. The scammers even tried to put her under a “virtual arrest” for 72 hours, she added.
