Todd Phillips’ much-awaited film, Joker: Folie à Deux, made a stunning entrance at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, receiving a resounding 11-minute standing ovation. Amid the buzz, a recent video from the screening has emerged online which shows an intriguing exchange between the lead actors Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga. The footage, shared on X, captures the audience’s enthusiastic applause as the credit rolls.

In the clip, Phoenix is seen gesturing to Gaga to stand and acknowledge the audience’s praise. As the applause swelled, Phoenix’s voice was lost in the crowd, leading Gaga to laugh heartily, seemingly not understanding the gesture at first. However, once she grasped what Phoenix was signalling, she promptly rose from her seat, acknowledging the audience with a warm wave and smile.

The video sparked a flurry of reactions from social media users, with many posting hilarious reactions in the comment section.

Reports indicate that the audience at the premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux erupted in cheers and applause, particularly praising Gaga’s performance in this musical thriller. According to ANI, the cast including Phoenix, Gaga and director Phillips received a warm standing ovation at the Sala Grande theatre on September 4. Throughout the ovation, the excitement was palpable as the crowd frequently chanted “Ga-ga, Ga-ga, Ga-ga!" while many others shouted, “Gaga, we love you!"

In a surprising and much-anticipated announcement, Warner Bros India had announced that Joker: Folie à Deux will premiere in Indian cinemas on October 2, two days before its global release.

Joker: Folie à Deux reunited Phoenix with his Oscar winning role as Arthur Fleck, the troubled comedian who becomes the infamous Joker. Gaga makes her debut as Harley Quinn, the love interest of Arthur Fleck. Zazie Beetz also reprises her role from the previous film. New faces in the sequel include Brendan Gleeson and Catherine Keener.

While fans in India will get an exclusive early screening, Joker: Folie à Deux is set for a worldwide release on October 4.
