Garudan, the rural Tamil action drama film starring Soori, Sasikumar and Unni Mukudan in the lead roles was released in the theatres on May 31. Helmed by R.S. Senthilkumar the film chronicles the life of two friends whose friendship faces struggle with betrayal. The film opened to positive reviews from fans and has also emerged as the Kollywood industry’s second biggest HIT of the year with impressive numbers at the box office.
According to a report by Sacnilk, On the opening day, the film had minted around Rs 3 crore at the Indian box office, while the numbers increased by 38.57 per cent on the second day and the action thriller collected Rs 4.85 crore on Saturday.
On the third day, Garudan minted Rs 6.25 crore taking the film’s first-week collection to a whopping Rs 14.6 crore in India, as per Sacnilk. Talking about the worldwide collection, collecting Rs 16.8 crore in three days.
Produced by Vetrimaaran’s Grass Root Film Company and K. Kumar’s Lark Studios, the film also stars Samuthirakani, Shivada, Revathi Sharma, Mime Gopi, RV Udayakumar and Vadivukkarasi in pivotal roles. The music of the film is composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
In English, the title of the film Garudan refers to an Eagle – indicating alertness, sharp eyes and being on the lookout for enemies.
Recently, actor Unni Mukundan, who marks his return to the Tamil cinema with Garudan, shared a poster of the film on Instagram and wrote, “#Garudan – flooding positive reviews, flying high at the box office! Don’t miss out on this blockbuster hit! Watch the film in theatres now and experience the thrill yourself.”
While talking to Times Now about Garudan, director Senthilkumar recently shared, “The reason why I rate this film’s screenplay high is because although Soori is the main protagonist, the film is a non-hero centric. The story’s progression is facilitated by different characters. It is actually like a relay race in which different characters move this story forward. I am pleased that I have been able to write such a script.”
Senthilkumar is also known for helming films like Dhanush’s Pattas, the political drama Kodi and the action film Kaaki Sattai.
Actor Ramalakshmanan Muthuchamy aka Soori, on the other hand, is also known for his performances in films like Viduthalai Part 1, Kottukaali, actor Vikram’s Saamy Square, Kanchana 3, Kennedy Club, Velan, Viruman and many others.
