After years in the entertainment industry, Demi Lovato has opened up about her future in music while working on her new Hulu documentary, Child Star. During an appearance on Penn Badgley’s podcast, Podcrushed, the talented singer, who rose to fame as a child artist, shared her thoughts on the pressures of fame and her evolving relationship with music.
Lovato expressed uncertainty about her future in the music industry, revealing that she had considered stepping away from it altogether because she wasn’t sure if it still brought her joy. However, the process of creating the documentary turned out to be a transformative experience for her. It helped her realise that she doesn’t need to chase success to find happiness and reignited her love for music.
Lovato said, “One of the reasons why I made this film was like, why do we turn out the way that we did and how does it affect me today. Is it something that is still wanna do? Why did I feel like I needed so much validation? One of the questions is, like, ‘Do I wanna still do this today?’ You know, going into this film, I was considering retirement because I didn’t know if it fulfilled me anymore but for some reason, it was so therapeutic working on this project, realising that, like, I don’t need success. I need to be happy.”
“At the end of the day, music does make me happy and that’s why I wanna continue it. I don’t wanna do it because I feel like I have to. I wanna do it because I love it. And working on this film has helped me kind of fall back in love with music,” Demi Lovato added.
Before the release of her documentary, Child Star, Lovato dropped a new single titled, ‘You’ll Be OK, Kid.’ While discussing the song with Penn Badgley, the singer said that making the track was an important moment in her music career, as she realised she was finally enjoying the process. Lovato explained that, for a long time, she struggled to enjoy her own work and found it difficult to connect with her music and regain her confidence in the studio. But her latest single changed everything.
Demi Lovato, who released her last album, Holy Fvck in 2022, is currently working on a new album, which she earlier claimed will be filled with romantic tracks.
