Akshay Kumar’s latest release Sarfira has been getting positive reviews from both audiences and critics. Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film is inspired by the life of GR Gopinath, the founder of the Indian low-cost airline Simplifly Deccan. The actor is seen portraying an intense role in this film. Not just this, he has also been part of several action films in his decades-long career. But for Akshay, the toughest movie till date was the hit 2005 comedy Garam Masala.
In conversation with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Akshay Kumar was asked which film so far in his career was the toughest. Reacting promptly to the question, the actor stated, “Toughest? Honestly, the toughest was Garam Masala! I used to pant while doing it because Priyan (Priyadarshan) sir used to take long, long shots.” He added that shooting the film felt more like doing a play. The actor mentioned that, as per the storyline, there were many characters performing together at one time, and therefore he found it to be one of the “most difficult films to do.”
Detailing the struggles he faced, Akshay said that in those long shots, there were expression changes with every dialogue. First, he was in front of one girl, and then the next moment there was another. With each, he had to behave as a “different character.” Apart from that, his character’s equation with Paresh Rawal was also different. The director used to film the entire scene with all these characters in one shot.
Akshay Kumar added, “There are many shots which are like 10 minutes long. I would find doing action, or dance easier than these things because this is real concentration – physical as well as mental.”
The comedy film Garam Masala revolved around Akshay Kumar’s character, Makarand ‘Mac’ Deendayal Chatpatiya, who was seen dating multiple women at the same time. The story gets interesting when his friend Shyam ‘Sam’ Salgaonkar (played by John Abraham) learns about his actions. The film also featured Rimi Sen, Neha Dhupia and Rajpal Yadav.
Meanwhile, the actor’s latest release Sarfira stars Radhikka Madan and Paresh Rawal. It is a Hindi adaptation of Soorarai Pottru, which was released in 2020 and starred Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal and others.
