Actor Imran Khan REVEALS Why He Mostly Starred In Romantic Films In His 20s: 'I Couldn't Relate To...'
Actor Imran Khan, who debuted with Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na in 2008, reveals why he didn't choose action films over relationship stories in romantic films.

Bollywood actor Imran Khan, who stole hearts with his debut in the hit film Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008, quickly became a fan favourite with his charming, boy-next-door vibe. The actor, known for his roles in romantic comedies like I Hate Luv Storys, Break Ke Baad and Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, has always been praised for his relatable take on love and relationships. But now, Imran has dropped a bombshell — he revealed he stuck to romantic films because action dramas just didn’t resonate with him.

In a recent interview with Times of India, actor Imran Khan shared why he chose romantic films over action movies. He said that early in his career, he felt more connected to love stories. After his big debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Imran starred in romantic hits like Break Ke Baad and Mere Brother Ki Dulhan. He admitted that in his 20s, he related more to romantic narratives and preferred working with new filmmakers who shared his perspective. “I felt through my 20s I was relating more to relationship stories which were romantic. They were about a young person finding their way in life. Also, I was consciously trying to work with first-time filmmakers because our vibe matched, we spoke a similar language… Back then, I didn’t entirely feel I could relate to the action-drama cinema,” he said.

In another interview, on the YouTube channel We Are Yuvaa, Imran shared his thoughts on what he considers “green flags in cinema,” citing Shah Rukh Khan’s portrayal of Raj in DDLJ as a prime example. He appreciated Raj’s character for embodying traditionally female roles and avoiding physical violence, setting him apart from typical male protagonists.

He explained, “His portrayal in DDLJ, where, in the second half of the film, he shows up at this girl’s house and he takes on this role that is the traditionally female role… he says I am helping with the shaadi, I’ll take mithai here and I’ll put decorations up over there and even at the end when it comes to physical conflict, he is not fighting the guys.”

Imran Khan is set to return to Bollywood after a nine-year hiatus, marking a major milestone in his career. According to Peepingmoon.com, the actor is starting a new chapter with the support of his maternal uncle and mentor, Aamir Khan. Aamir was instrumental in launching Imran’s career, first as a child actor in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 and later as a leading man in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.

On the relationship front, actor Imran Khan, after his divorce with Avantika Malik, is now living in with girlfriend Lekha Washington.
