Vishwakarma Puja 2024: Know Date And Auspicious Timings For Rituals
Vishwakarma Puja is traditionally observed on the day of Kanya Sankranti.

There is some uncertainty regarding the date of Vishwakarma Puja this year. Kanya Sankranti occurs on the evening of September 16, leading to confusion about whether the celebration should be on September 16 or 17. Vishwakarma Puja is traditionally observed on the day of Kanya Sankranti, but the timing of the event also holds significance. To clarify, Kashi’s astrologer Chakrapani Bhatt explains the accurate date and auspicious time for the Puja. This year, Kanya Sankranti, which marks the occasion for Vishwakarma Puja, falls on September 16. The Sun will enter Virgo at 7:53 pm, marking the Sankranti, but sunrise is considered for the Puja’s observance. Since Kanya Sankranti occurs in the evening, Vishwakarma Puja will not be performed on September 16 after 7:53 pm. The correct date for Vishwakarma Puja this year is Tuesday, September 17. Some calendars, however, still list September 16 as the date for the Puja. Vishwakarma Puja, this year, falls under the shadow of Bhadra.

Bhadra will begin at 11:44 am and last until 9:55 pm on that day. This particular Bhadra is associated with Earth, which is considered inauspicious, and during this time, no favourable activities should be undertaken. It is advised to perform Vishwakarma Puja before Bhadra begins. Rahu Kaal, another inauspicious period, will be from 3:19 pm to 4:51 pm on that day, so this time should also be avoided for the Puja.

Vishwakarma Puja can be performed between 6:07 am and 11:44 am. This year, the Puja will take place during the auspicious period of Ravi Yoga. On September 17, Ravi Yoga begins at 6:07 am and lasts until 1:53 pm, making it a favourable time for performing Vishwakarma Puja before Bhadra starts at 11:44 am. Raj Panchak will be in effect on Vishwakarma Puja day, starting a day earlier, on Monday, September 16. This Panchak, which begins on Monday, is known as Raj Panchak. It is considered auspicious and beneficial, making it a favourable time for important activities.

On Vishwakarma Puja, individuals honour their shops, vehicles, machines, tools, and spare parts. This day is dedicated to worshipping Lord Vishwakarma, the divine craftsman. Devotees believe that his blessings lead to prosperous business, smooth operations throughout the year, and the removal of obstacles in their work.
