Ganesh Chaturthi is steeped in rich mythology, celebrating the birth and rebirth of Lord Ganesha. Hindu lore says Goddess Parvati created Lord Ganesha from sandalwood paste while Lord Shiva was away. She made him to guard her privacy during her bath. When Lord Shiva returned and attempted to enter the temple, he was blocked by Lord Ganesha. They both got into an argument. Later, Lord Shiva separated Ganesh’s head from his body. Angered by this, Goddess Parvati vowed to destroy the universe and so Lord Shiva implanted an elephant’s head on the body of Lord Ganesha.
