New Delhi: What originated miles away in Tibet, has found a huge popularity in the bylanes, highways and malls of India. Momo, meaning 'steamed wheat flour bun', which is offered with vegetable and meat fillings, is selling like hot cakes in almost every part of the country.
Since it is available in a wide range – fried, steamed, stuffed with paneer, doused in chocolate and vodka – the takers for the delicacy continues to increase by the day. And to ensure the fan base continues to experience a huge augment, Delhi will wake up to one of the most interesting and much-awaited new concept this Sunday. Wondering what it is? Well, Delhi will host a momo festival 'Yeh Dil Mange Momos', which as the organisers say, is the first of its kind. With interesting varieties such as - tandoori, fried, steamed, Afghani and stuffings of vodka, chocolate – on offer, the festival is expected to be attended by hordes of food lovers.
When we spoke to Hunar Katoch, co-founder of GoBuzzinga, about what made them initiate the festival and the reasons why Delhites had to wait so long for such a festival he said, “We’re passionate about trying new things and are always discovering best things to do in the city for our GoBuzzinga community through Crowd Sourced Recommendations and Curated Events. To engage with our community offline, we organize small events that explore the nooks and corners of Delhi and look for new things to do. The unexplored varieties of momos of Amar Colony made us curate a momo food walk for our community. We created the event for the foodwalk on Facebook and it went viral. Suddenly, a small food walk snowballed into a massive event with thousands of people participating within couple of days."
He added, “Momo Mania had gripped Delhi! The walk couldn’t have possibly accommodated so many people and we didn’t want to disappoint any of the momo lovers. So the idea quickly evolved into hosting India’s first ever Momo Festival. Trust us, after the idea struck, we couldn't have possibly done the fest sooner!”
While the festival is garnering everybody's attention for obvious reasons, Hunar throws light on its USP. “This festival instantly went viral on social media due to its instant connect with Delhi audience’s taste buds. Momo is undoubtedly the most adapted street food of Delhi, and people are yet to discover its countless variants available across Delhi. These experiments with momos have made them excited about the event, where we’ve curated an event to bring the best and most exotic momos around Delhi at one platform.”
Unlike others who would have focused on the difficulties they faced in organizing the festival to let everyone know about the hard work, Hunar chooses to speak only about the positive aspect. “We’ve had so much fun organizing this festival in record time of two weeks and this couldn’t be possible without the Delhi’s passion for momos and support we’ve got from our partners - street vendors and restaurants. Thankfully everything has been smooth so far and we’ve got tremendous help from our friends and family.”
To ensure the food lovers get more such events to attend, the organizers have plans for more such innovative and one-of-its-kind programmes. “We actively interact with our community through our own app and our social media channels. GoBuzzinga being a crowd-powered platform, will definitely be wherever there is a demand or a buzz. We have plans for more innovative and one-of-its-kind events like this one. We’re currently int delighting our GoBuzzinga community in Delhi and will soon be present in other cities as well. We’ve recently released our Android app, we’ll be constantly evolving and innovating in the space of hyper-local discovery. After getting a foothold in Delhi, we will expand to other cities in India and abroad.”
The much awaited daylong event will happen in Chanakyapuri on October 4 from noon till 9 pm.
