CHENNAI: A women self-help group member was found murdered near her house at Gerugambakkam, near Porur, early on Tuesday. Police have launched a hunt for two suspects in connection with the case.Sources said victim R Ambika (38) was the vice-president of Jhansi Rani Seva Sangam, which had around 10 SHGs functioning under it. On Tuesday, around 1.30 am, her husband Ravi, who worked as manager at Hotel Saravana Bhavan in Parrys, was returning from duty in his two-wheeler to his house in Akash Nagar, when he was accosted by a duo dressed like policemen. Ravi was taken aback when the duo mentioned his wife’s name and wanted to know where she lived, the sources said.Ravi took them to his house and calling out his wife went inside to change his clothes. On coming out of the room, however, he found her and the strangers missing. He searched for his wife everywhere and finally found her body, with the throat slit, near a private bus parked close to his house.On information, Mangadu police inspector Adhimoolam arrived at the spot and sent the body to Chromepet government hospital. Registering a case of murder, police have launched a hunt for the duo. Probe is on whether the victim was killed because of previous enmity due to misappropriation of funds of SHG members or because of any illicit relationship. Police are also questioning her husband.
