Kolkata: Milon Sarkar, the main accused in the nun rape case in Nadia has been finally arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from Sealdah along with his accomplish Wahidur Babu late on Thursday night.
The CID nabbed Milan Sarkar and Ahidul Islam Babu from Sealdah station. Earlier also CID had made two arrests in connection with the case.
The 70-year-old nun was raped by a gang of seven dacoits inside a Convent in Gangnapur village of Nadia district in West Bengal on March 14, 2015. Reportedly, the victim along with another nun tried to thwart the robbery attempt on the premises of the Convent.
However, the dacoits tied up the other nun and raped the victim in front of her. They also fled with Rs 10 to 12 lakh in cash.
The elderly nun was admitted to a hospital in Ranaghat and was discharged on the morning of March 20. Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital superintendent AN Mondol said the Sister Superior of Convent of Jesus and Mary, who had been declared fit for discharge, was released from hospital at around 2:45 AM on March 20.
Taking no chances, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had immediately ordered a CID probe into the case.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) had also taken suo motu cognisance of the case and had issued a notice to the West Bengal government. Meanwhile, posters in support of the nun have been put up outside the convent where the rape took place.
