New Delhi: The Alwar lynching incident rocked the Rajya Sabha on Thursday morning after the government said no such event, as reported by media, took place in Rajasthan.
Responding to Congress MP Madhusudan Mistry’s statement that cow vigilantes had attacked vehicles transporting cattle and killed a man, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “No such incident, as being reported, has taken place on the ground. The concerned state government has already condemned the media reports.”
As soon as the House proceedings began, Opposition leaders shouted slogans and sought debate on the issue. While Kurien initially said such a debate would be allowed only during Zero Hour, the MPs persisted.
The accused — Vipin Yadav (19), Ravendra (32) and Kaluram (44) — are residents of Behror where the incident happened. News18 has learnt that in the preliminary interrogation, they denied being associated with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) or the Bajrang Dal.
Police sources said five people were identified from the video that was circulated on social media. Of them, three were seen beating Pehlu Khan and others, while the other two were seen standing nearby. They were picked up at around 9:45pm on Wednesday from their homes in Behror.
