CUMBUM: Experts from the Central Water and Power Research Station conducted tests on the levels of vibrations in the Mullaiperiyar dam on Wednesday to assess the stability of the dam.The Supreme Court has constituted an empowered committee under the chairmanship of former Chief Justice of India, Justice A S Anand, to report on the stability of the Mullaiperiyar dam. The committee visited the Mullaiperiyar dam on December 21, 2010.On the suggestion of the committee, a team from the Central Water and Power Research Station led by senior researcher Tripathi visited the Mullaiperiyar dam on Wednesday and measured the vibration levels at 600 feet below the surface. The tests would continue for another five days.Executive engineer of the dam Rajesh, Assistant Executive Engineer Kalyanasundaram and others accompanied the team on behalf of the Tamil Nadu government. Kerala government was represented by Chief Engineer for Irrigation P Lathika, Dam Protection Committee chairman N K Parameshwara Nair and other officials.
