THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bid to save the life of a one-and-a-half-year old child who consumed kerosene became a nightmare for the family when the ambulance carrying the child to the hospital caught fire killing Abdul Wahid and Suhara Beevi, the grandparents of the child. The incident occurred around 12.30 pm near Kallara-Pangode area.“The paramedical staff accompanying the family heard a sound from the oxygen cylinder. The driver and the cleaner got down to check it along with the nurse. Soon after the blast occurred,” the police said.The parents managed to escape through the back door along with the child.The grandparents who were seated in the front got trapped inside as the fire spread in no time. While Suhara Beevi died on the spot, Abdul Wahid died in the Medical College Hospital here later.
