Tsunami houses lack amenities

PUDUCHERRY: The state unit of BJP has urged the government to provide basic amenities, like electricity, safe drinking water and drainage to the 1400 tsunami houses in Kalapet, which were handed over to beneficiaries eight months ago.State unit secretary R V Saminathan, in a statement said if the government failed to provide the amenities, his party members would organise a fast on October 2 to register their protest.The BJP leader said that when the beneficiaries approached the electricity board officials for a connection, they were asked to produce photo copies of their residence pattas. Also that the beneficiaries were not staying in the houses because the area was frequented by  anti-social elements.
