Kanyakumari (TN): An agitated traffic constable hit a speeding biker with his lathi while trying to stop him for not wearing a helmet, little realising it had injured him badly.
The constable has been suspended, pending inquiry. CCTV footage of the incident which went viral showed Rakesh (25) with a bleeding head injury and onlookers gathered at the spot.
Apparently the biker stopped the two wheeler a few metres away after being hit and was seen showing the injury and narrating the incident to the people from the spot where it occurred on Thursday.
Later, a shaken Rajesh was put on a vehicle and taken to a government hospital for treatment.
Police said Rakesh, who was driving the bike with his friend riding pillion, tried to speed away when asked to stop during a routine drive against riders not wearing helmets in Kallupalam area on Thursday.
Enraged locals gathered at the spot and began to rough up the constable before he was rescued by his colleagues and some members of the public.
