During investigation, the CCB sleuths found that after coming to know that Mahavir was looking out to purchase land, Selvam and Joseph persuaded him to buy a 180 sqm land belonging to TNHB in Ayanambakkam for Rs 30 lakh by falsely claiming that it belonged to one Varadarajan. They also produced ‘Varadarajan’ before him and using a bogus TNHB allotment order, receipts and transfer certificate, prepared with the help of a housing board employee Asokan alias Ashok Kumar (53), sold the land to Mahavir.They received Rs 30 lakh in two installments. During registration, the duo took the impersonator landowner to the TNHB office, where they obtained a bogus allotment order in the name of Varadarajan with the help of the record clerk E Krishnan (55).
