THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major respite for the investigating team of the Valakam teacher attack case, the person who first spotted R Krishnakumar on September 27, met police on Sunday and gave his statement. The probe team had initiated a process to release his sketch based on inputs from the locals who were alerted by him. However, he contacted the police just in time.According to the probe team, Krishnakumar was hit by a car. The locals had also seen a white car speeding away from the crime scene. However, the person whose identity is not revealed said that he was not a witness to the attack but had chased a white Alto car. The person was reluctant to approach the police as the case turned into a high-profile one, sources in the police told Express.“He first noticed two slippers lying on the road and on the roadside he saw Krishnakumar lying in a pool of blood. He also saw a white car speeding away and gave it a chase thinking that it might have hit the teacher.“But he was unable to note down the car’s number. However, he alerted the locals and the highway police about the incident and left the scene,” a police official said. The probe team on Friday after receiving the medical report had reached to the conclusion that Krishnakumar was not injured with any sharp weapons but was hit by a speeding car.It is now probing whether it was just a road accident or a deliberate act. The person was released on the assurance that he would appear before the investigation team whenever called upon. The probe was on track and in its final stage, the DGP said.Intensive search was on for the white car in Kollam and neighbouring districts.
