CHENNAI: A surprise inspection by the Railway Protection Force sleuths to check the movement of crackers in trains on the early morning of Monday resulted in the arrest of a person carrying an LPG gas cylinder. Passengers are prohibited from carrying explosives including LPG cylinders as they pose a threat to the lives of the travellers. Acting on the directions of SR Gandhi, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, Chennai Division, Southern Railways, RPF personnel have intensified checking to prevent the movement of crackers on trains. According to Mambalam RPF Sub Inspector S Maharajan, a commuter alighted at the Saidapet railway station with an LPG cylinder covered by a huge polythene bag. On interrogation by constable Pradeesh, the passenger, identified M Shankar, an employee of a tea shop, revealed that he was carrying an LPG cylinder. He was carrying the cylinder believing that security would be less before dawn. Later, he was produced in the court and fined `500.
