CHENNAI: The Chennai district collector has been directed by the Madras High Court to take appropriate disciplinary proceedings against the Mylapore-Triplicane tahsildar for furnishing wrong information to a landlady with regard to a public road in Parameswari Nagar in Adyar, on Tuesday.“We suspect some foul play in the matter of issuance of the communication dated November 25, 2008,” a division Bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal said and directed the collector to conduct a thorough enquiry into the matter and initiate necessary legal and disciplinary action against the persons concerned. The Bench also imposed a cost of `25,000 on CT Saraswathi Achi, a landlady, for playing all “her tactics and tricks” on the justice system to prolong the litigation and restrict the locals from enjoying the road for the ingress and egress with the intention of illegally grabbing land in a prime area in the city. The Bench also imposed another charge of `25,000 on one M Durairaj, who had obtained an order in his favour by suppressing the fact of dismissal of his case on the same issue, earlier.Originally, G Narguna Velan, another property owner, filed a writ petition for a direction to the Chennai Corporation to re-lay a road after removing the encroachments and to install lights in Second Street of Parameswari Nagar in Adyar. By an order passed in June, 2010, the HC had accordingly given the direction. Alleging that this order had not been complied with, Velan filed a contempt application against the Corporation officials. As the road ran through her property, an aggrieved Achi filed a revision petition. She was armed with a letter dated November 25, 2008, issued by the tahsildar stating that there was no sub-division classified as public road in the property. The Bench directed the Corporation to re-lay the road after removing all the encroachments and install lights in the street in question. Contempt petition against the Corporation officials was closed. Achi’s review petition was dismissed.
