CHANGANASSERY: In a smooth transition, G Sukumaran Nair, general secretary-in-charge and former secretary of the Nair Service Society (NSS), was unanimously elected to the post of general secretary at the annual budget meet of the organisation held at Perunna on Saturday.P K Narayana Panicker, who had relinquished his general secretary post after his health began to fall a few months ago, has been unanimously elected president of the organisation, a post from which incumbent P V Neelakanta Pillai has stepped down, that too on health grounds.The meet has also reelected P N Narendranathan Nair unanimously as treasurer for a third term. Incidentally, none has been elected to the post of secretary, which was held by G Sukumaran Nair, till he took over as general secretary-in-charge.Another notable decision of the meet was the election of a new member to the 27member director board, in lieu of the jailed R Balakrishna Pillai, former minister and Pathanapuram taluk union president.Highland R Rajendran Pillai from Kottarakara has replaced Balakrishna Pillai.Eight others have been reelected to the director board, comprising P K Narayana Panicker and G Sukumaran Nair (Changanassery union), Nedumangad R Gopalan Nair (Nedumangad), N V Ayyappan Pillai (Karunagapally), Kalanjoor Madhu (Adoor), K N Viswanathan Pillai (Chengannur), Chithara S Radhakrishnan Nair (Chadayamangalam) and N S Prabhakaran Pillai (Tiruvalla). While Balakrishna Pillai, a regular at NSS meets while in power or out, was not present at the meet, K B Ganesh Kumar, his minister son, attended the meet as usual and sat through most part of the proceedings.
