HYDERABAD: Montfort Social Institute-MSI (Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development Education) in collaboration with NSS Unit-1, NCC and SMILE club of St Francis College for women are holding celebrations for Human Rights Fortnight from December 1 to 14. Human Rights Day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations Organisation and is celebrated all over the world on December 10. President of AP Human Rights Forum, Jeevan Kumar said, “The governments in power should fulfill their responsibility to the citizens as they are in power with the support of people and as dutiful citizens we will not fail to do our duty.” Sr Alphonsa Vattoly, Principal of St Francis College, the Guest of Honour, also addressed the students on the similar issue.While the inaugural of the HR Fortnight was held at Father Bendel High School in the Church Colony, the valedictory function will be at St Francis College for Women, Begumpet on December 14. Citra, a centre for training, research and action jointly with Asha Kiran, a home for girl children of prisoners at Lalapet in Tarnaka, celebrated Human Rights Day on Friday, the second day of the fortnight. Functions will be arranged at different venues on the other days of the fortnight. The objective of the celebrations is to spread values and principles of human rights such as respect, dignity and equality of all, through creative literary and cultural expressions. Stamps and stickers will be used to build awareness on the importance of Zrespect for the dignity and human rights.
