KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Monday sought the view of the state government on a petition challenging the direction issued by the Transport Commissioner to the private stage carriers and KSRTC to grant travel concession for students on Sundays and holidays.Jusitce P N Ravindran passed the order while considering the petition filed by All Kerala Bus Operators Organisation General Secretary T Gopinathan and others challenging the Transport Commissioner’s order. The petitioner submitted that the Transport Commissioner acted without any jurisdiction and the order is illegal.“Travel concession is the facility extended for students to travel from home to institution for the purpose of attending classes. Allowing concession on holidays is not permissible under law. Only state government can issue such an order. The transport commissioner breached the area which is an exclusive domain of the state,” the petitioners submitted before the court.
