PRODDATUR: The staff of 104 services in the district have been on strike for over 45 days pressurising the government to concede to their demands which include job security, hike in salaries and payment of arrears.
But, with the government not relenting, the service still remain suspended. As a result, people in villages are facing lot of problems with 104 Services remaining off roads. They are forced to spend money and time to visit the nearest PHC or area hospital even for a general checkup. There are 22 '104' vehicles in the district with 158 employees. Each vehicle provides medical services to nearly 84,000 people in a month. These vehicles are parked at seven places in the district Kadapa (4), Pulivendula (2), Rayachoti (4), Rajampet (4), Badvel (4), Proddatur (2), Jammalamadugu (2).

The total number of villages covered by the vehicles are 3,621 villages, particularly remote and isolated ones. Further, an ANM of 104 services will visit government schools in the villages and provide the required medical services and provide free medicines.

"Our demands are just and we too have families and need to take care of them. We are extending medical services to the needy, which is a noble cause. We are constantly living under the fear of losing our jobs. Salaries being given at present are not sufficient to meet our basic needs. We will not stop agitating until our demands are met," said employees Union leader Balaiah.

With services being suspended, we are facing hardship again," said Ramakrishna Reddy of Daddanala village in Rajupalem mandal.
