Smriti Irani offers financial aid to IIT-JEE qualified J&K student who lost his father in a terror attack
Despite all odds, Zahid cracked the prestigious IIT entrance exam but was planning to forgo his seat due to financial constraints.

Srinagar: In a relief for Jammu and Kashmir student Zahid Ahmad Qureshi who cracked IIT-JEE, HRD Minister Smriti Irani has stepped in to provide him financial assistance. Irani tweeted that her minsitry will arrange for a scholarship for Zahid Ahmad Qureshi.

The 21-year-old from Kupwara in J&K has been a victim of terrorism. He was only 2 months old when his father was gunned down by suspected terrorists and his mother remarried leaving him with his grandparents.

Despite all odds, Zahid cracked the prestigious IIT entrance exam but was planning to forgo his seat due to financial constraints. He was not in a position to deposit even Rs 10,000 for counselling.

Zahid secured the 89th rank in the IIT exam in the first attempt even though he came to know about it only after his 12th exams.

Zahid said his first choice was IIT-Madras followed by IIT-Kharagpur and IIT-Mumbai. The young boy wants to be software engineer and then pursue Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM.
