THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A vindicated Sibi Mathews, shortly after Thrissur Vigilance Special Court dismissed the petitions alleging his misuse of office, lashed out at DirectorGeneral of Police Jacob Punnoose for discrimination shown to him.
Addressing mediapersons here, Sibi Mathews alleged that the DGP was protecting the officers who had been conspiring against him. Even though he had filed a complaint before the DGP over a year ago alleging lobbying against him, the DGP had failed to take any action. A series of bogus petitions were filed against him before different courts in the state ever since his name was considered for promotion to the rank of DGP in October 2009, Sibi said.Sibi Mathews, who is currently the Chief Information Commissioner, flayed DGP Jacob Punnoose whom he alleged had sat on his petition. 'The DGP was protecting the police and Vigilance officials who conspired against me. That might be the reason why he has not acted on my petition yet, despite providing enough evidence and the list of names of the officers who lobbied against me,' said Sibi Mathews.

The Thrissur Vigilance Special Court on Thursday dismissed a private petition alleging Sibi Mathews, a former Vigilance Director, had tried to influence a Vigilance probe into the irregularities in Malabar Cements. Sibi Mathews had recently taken voluntary retirement from police service while he was the DGP of the Intelligence wing. He had then raised the allegation of a lobby within the police department working against him. Interestingly, Sibi Mathews holds an impressive track record of cracking numerous major cases.
