Gujranwala (Pakistan): Clashes broke out in the city of Gujranwala on Friday after gun shots were fired at the vehicle of Pakistani opposition leader Imran Khan.
The cricketer-turned-populist politician was shot at as he led an anti-government march to the capital. Khan's spokeswoman Aneela Khan said that Khan was not injured but his vehicle was hit. The convoy was attacked by a stone-pelting mob with no intervention by the police, she said.
Television pictures show local people tearing up posters featuring Khan's party, Tehreek-e-Insaaf, and clashing with his supporters. Khan and cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri are both leading protest marches to the capital, where they intend to hold a sit-in until prime minister Nawaz Sharif resigns.
Khan has been demanding Sharif's resignation- claiming that the 2013 elections were rigged and that Sharif has been elected through a fake mandate.
