Serbia rethink after poor show
Coach Ilija Petkovic criticised the media for "putting too much pressure" on the team to get through a difficult group.

Gelsenkirchen: Serbia & Montenegro Football Association president Tomislav Karadzic said their 6-0 World Cup Group C demolition by Argentina required a "thorough analysis" and wholesale changes.

"We must sit down and analyse thoroughly what went wrong and whether the right players were picked for this tournament," he said after seeing the Serbs crash to their heaviest World Cup defeat.

"We will make wholesale changes if we have to because this is unacceptable. We are not in the same bracket with Argentina but there is no excuse for a performance like this," he said.

Coach Ilija Petkovic again criticised the media for "putting too much pressure" on the team to get through a difficult group but admitted it was a poor showing against the Argentines.

"It was one of the worst defeats in our football history to be remembered by generations to come. We played very badly," he told a press conference.

Midfielder Albert Nadj said Serbia must salvage some pride in their final group match against Ivory Coast after being taken apart by a team superior in every area.

"We couldn't match Argentina in any department and the score does not flatter them. It will be hard to stomach this but we have to pull our socks up and save face against Ivory Coast before we go home," he said.

Although the Serbs still have a theoretical chance of reaching the last 16, striker Mateja Kezman believes the World Cup is all but over for his team.

"It is difficult to say anything sensible after a disaster like this. We are thunderstruck and no one was able to speak in the dressing room," he said.

"I can only apologise for getting sent off and say that we have pride to play for in our final group match. Our hopes of doing well are over."

The Serbians face Ivory Coast on June 21 in Munich.
