CHENNAI: The AIADMK on Saturday asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram to break their silence on the charges levelled by former Telecom Minister A Raja linking the PM and Union Home Minister in the 2G spectrum case.“Many days have passed after Raja made these charges against the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister before the Supreme Court during the hearing on the 2G spectrum case. Both of them are yet to respond to these allegations. Further, UPA chairperson is also keeping silence on this issue,” a resolution adopted at the executive committee meeting of the party said here. The people of the country have the “right to know the truth in this Himalayan fraud” and they expect a proper reply from the Central government in this regard, it added.Later, addressing a press conference, AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa said when such serious and sweeping charges were made by a former DMK minister, the PM and others need to respond. In his deposition before the court a few days ago, Raja had dragged the Prime Minister and Chidambaram, the then Finance Minister, in 2G case, saying the issue of sale of equity by spectrum licencees was discussed with them. The AIADMK chief has already instructed her party MPs in both Houses of Parliament to protest the ‘lull’ in the investigation against the former DMK minister Dayanidhi Maran with regard to the 2G spectrum case and not to spare the PM and other top leaders of the Congress in this regard.Asked about AIADMK’s stance that PM should not be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal Bill,Jayalalithaa said “I have already made my view clear on the Lokpal Bill. If the PM is brought the within ambit of the Lokpal Bill, that will undermine the authority of the PM and will be tantamount to running a parallel government. Moreover, my support was not to any individual but to the institution of the office of the PM.”
