New Delhi: Randi Zuckerberg, former Facebook marketing director and Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg's elder sister, is making an appearance in Olive, a first-of-its-kind film.
The film directed by Hooman Khalili and Pat Gilles, is the first full length feature film shot completely on a mobile phone. While there have been other films shot on mobile phones, Olive will be the first to be screened in mainstream theatres. The directors also intend submit their creation for an Oscar consideration. When that happens it will again be another first for a cellphone-shot film.
Randi Zuckerberg plays the role of a shoe sales girl in the movie that was shot on a Nokia N8 smartphone fitted with a 35 mm lens adapter in order to achieve a shallow depth of field. Two time Academy Award nominated actress Gena Rowlands plays an important role in the movie.
The plot of Olive is about a little girl (title role played by Ruby Christina) who transforms the lives of three people without speaking a word. The independently-financed movie is expected to release in more than 2000 theatres across the United States.
The Nokia N8 has another record to its credit. The smartphone's 12 megapixel camera was attached with a CellScope - microscope for mobile phones - to shoot Dot, the world's smallest film. The film, commissioned as a viral for Nokia, featured a 9 mm tall doll called Dot.
