CHENNAI/TIRUPUR: The death toll due to rain-related incidents since the northeast monsoon set-in in the State reached 44 on Tuesday with the drowning of seven persons in flash floods in Tirupur. Two more persons were reported missing in Tirupur district on Tuesday and the police suspect that they were washed away in flash floods on Sunday night.Mani alias Sadhasivam (60) of Karuvampalayam, who was working at a shop on the banks of the Jammunaipallam stream, was washed away along with his shop by flash floods. Similarly, a woman of Namakkarapalayam near Kangeyam was also reported missing on Tuesday. She is also suspected to have been washed away in the flood.Meanwhile, the water level at the Mettur dam touched 102 ft on Tuesday, although there was a significant dip in the inflows into the dam, compared to the inflows in the last couple of days.
