Thankfully, the questions were not centred around easy topics like the Marina Beach or the Central Railway Station, but were well-researched and required a bit of analytical thinking on behalf of the participants.Hosted by Lokesh from Oye Chennai at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre, the quiz saw over 45 quizzing enthusiasts, with the top six teams battling it out in the finals. The teams of two appeared to have spent as much time in coming up with innovative team names as they had in preparing for the quiz, 15, Vivekananda Street, Chennai Curious and Madras to Chennai were a few innovative names.When they were asked questions such as the name of the first-of-its-kind squad that was formed by the Madras City Police in 1951 (The Dog Squad), the teams had no qualms in shooting out the answers, but it was the picture puzzles that they found challenging. When the photo of an old building popped on the screen and the participants were required to not only name it, but also give the name of the building that replaced it, they were a bunch of wild guesses.The Madras Club, replaced by the Express Avenue Mall, one hopeful participant answered, but in vain. After a few more innovative guesses, one team got the answer right – The D’Angelis Hotel, the first to have a cold storage and an electric lift, which has now been replaced by a Bata showroom.
