PWD had issued flood warning

CHENNAI: The PWD has said that it had issued a flood warning ahead of the release of excess water from Puzhal reservoir.In a statement, the department said that the news abo-ut release of excess water was publicised through the press and television. The water resources department had informed revenue officials about the release of water and the village panchayat, VAO, village assistants and PWD maintenance officials had issued flood warning during the spell of rains that began on November 25.Local residents were intimated through the Tahsildar and the field level revenue staff. Those living near the banks of the lake were evacuated to safer places before the release of water.Only a few residents refused to leave. About 100 cusecs of water was released at 11.30 am on November 25 and it was stepped up to 2,500 cusecs due to the rainfall in the catchment areas and inflow into the reservoir, the release said.
