CHENNAI: With the residents of Ram Nagar in Puzhuthivakkam being cut off because their BSNL cables were damaged during pipe laying work, a letter from the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (CMWSSB) to City Express informs that this problem will soon be completely resolved.According to the letter, CMWSSB admits that BSNL lines were damaged at “certain places” and that whenever the problems were noticed, “the same was intimated to the BSNL office and rectified immediately.” Difficulties ensued for local residents in the area when the pipe laying work by the Metro water in certain areas cut off telephone and internet connections, due to BSNL lines being damaged in the process. Added to this inconvenience, several of the affected residents were asked to pay their bills in spite of the lack of connectivity. This came in response to an article titled Ram Nagar residents rendered incommunicado, published in the City Express on June 9.The letter also states that a co-ordination meeting was conducted with officials of BSNL, CMWSSB and the Executive officer of the Puzhuthivakkam Muncipality. As a result of the proceedings, it was decided “that the CMWSSB will inform the BSNL office on a daily basis, regarding the proposed locations of execution.” This will be followed by a request to assign staff to work on site, in order to prevent damage of BSNL cables.
