At least six people, including two children, were tragically killed after their boat capsized in the Ujani dam backwaters in Maharashtra’s Pune district. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening due to strong winds and rains, according to officials.

Soon after the incident was reported, the police said that NDRF and SDRF teams were deployed on-site for the rescue operation. The search is underway to find more people.

The victims, including three men, a woman, and two children, were on the boat service between Kalashi and Bhugav villages when the mishap occurred.

Despite the tragic event, an assistant police inspector, who was among the seven individuals on the boat, was able to swim to safety.

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) leader Supriya Sule reached the site of the tragedy to take cognisance of the situation and monitor the rescue operation being conducted by NDRF and SDRF.

“Kalashi, A launch overturned in the catchment area at Indapur. Visited there and inspected the relief and rescue operations. A team of NDRF is working here. The work of searching for those who went missing in this incident is going on and we pray to God that they will be safe,” Sule wrote on X.
