New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee will join Twitter on Tuesday making him the first Indian President to join the social networking site. The move comes as attempts are being made to make the Rashtrapati Bhawan more accessible to the general public.

Pranab Mukherjee's Facebook page already has over 5 lakh likes. Among the most prominent Presidents on Twitter is US President Barack Obama, who is the most followed world leader.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is highly active on Twitter, tweeting from both the PMO India handle as well as the Narendra Modi handle. Modi is the fourth most "followed" world leader on Twitter and recently overtook the White House in terms of number of followers.

According to Twiplomacy, a study conducted by global public relations and communications firm Burson-Marsteller, US President is the most followed leader on Twitter followed by Pope Francis, Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Modi and the White House.
