The Electricity department in Puducherry has paid Rs 25 crore towards part payment of arrears due to the TANGEDCO.
When the matter came up before a division bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal on September 13 last, senior counsel VT Gopalan handed over demand drafts totalling Rs 25 crore to the counsel for TANGEDCO.
Gopalan also agreed to pay the balance amount of Rs 106 crore within four weeks. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on September 17.
Originally, there was a dispute between the two governments over the increased levy of current charges by the then TNEB.
The Puducherry Electricity Department approached the High Court, which dismissed the petition in 2004. Aggrieved, an writ appeal was preferred.
When the appeal came up on August 14 last, the bench had directed the Puducherry Electricity department to pay Rs 150 crore to TANGEDCO within four weeks. In case of failure, appropriate action would be taken, it had warned.
Accordingly, the Puducherry Electricity department made the payment on Thursday.
