Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) principal Dr V Prithiviraj had warned of strict actions against students involved directly or instigating in any form of ragging in PEC. Prithiviraj added that criminal proceedings as per law would be taken against such students, besides being suspended or dismissed.
Prithiviraj’s warning came with the class inaugural of the 1st year B Tech courses 2012-2013, which would start on August 6. An inaugural function had been arranged at the college auditorium at 10.30 am on August 6. All students joining the college and their parents had been invited for the event.
The principal said that all necessary precautions have been taken to curb the menace of ragging at all levels to make freshers feel safe and comfortable. Parents had also been requested to advise their wards accordingly, he added.
Ragging is strictly prohibited by a notification issued by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. It is a non-bailable offence and is punishable with imprisonment ranging up to two years.
