Superintendent of Police Y S Ramesh has recommended the Palamu Deputy Commissioner K N Jha for a judicial probe into the death of one Chaku Singh, allegedly in police custody during interrogation.
Singh, who was arrested on Friday for allegedly murdering his wife Munni Devi, was rushed to the Sardar Hospital after his health deteriorated during the grilling.
He was brought for interrogation again after he recovered but breathed his last in course, police said, adding, that a medical committee will conduct postmortem.
The SP after visiting the hospital, where Singh was taken, to investigate into the incident, told reporters that the accused died of ill health.
Earlier, Singh, a resident of Rabda village under Rural police station, had allegedly strangled his wife to death following an altercation over a family issue on Thursday night and fled. Locals caught hold of him and handed over to the police.
