Plea to increase SC quota In local polls

CHENNAI: A writ plea has been made in the Madras High Court to increase the number of seats reserved for members belonging to Scheduled Caste community for the ensuing local body elections.The first bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam ordered notice to the authorities concerned, returnable in two weeks. In his writ petition,  LA Nathan of Kolathur submitted that by an order dated August 3, the government had expanded the territorial area of the Chennai City Municipal Corporation from 155 to 200 divisions. But the quota for SCs was not correspondingly enhanced, petitioner contended.
