A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking a directive to entrust the implementation of the Kochi Metro Rail Project to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and to complete the work within a time-frame.
The petition filed by C P Padmanabhan, secretary, Jana Samparka Samithi of Kochi, also sought a directive to the state to direct the authorities to complete the work within a time-frame.
The petitioner also sought a directive to the state to allocate and make available necessary funds for the completion of the project. “The loss suffered by the Kochi Metro project should be recovered from the persons or the officials responsible for the delay in starting the initial work. It was announced earlier that the Prime Minister will be laying down the foundation stone for the metro rail project, but still no stapes have been taken to hand over the project to DMRC,” the petition pointed out.
The petitioner also said that the Centre and the state governments are not taking any steps to hand over land for the project.
