Following murders committed by 'psycho' in a Chennai bound RTC bus in the wee hours of Thursday in Nellore district, villagers of the Chittoor, particularly those living in the mandals bordering Nellore district are spending anxious moments, fearing a psycho attack anytime.
While, youth in some villages of Satyaved, Varadaiahpalem and Srikalahasthi mandals are taking up the task to provide security to their villages by forming watch squads, police personnel are combing the forest areas.
If the villagers find any stranger, they are not hesitating in attacking them before handing them over to the police. Every stranger in the eyes of the villagers looks like a psycho.
Such an incident took place on Saturday at TMV Kandriga village near
Srikalahasthi town, where villagers caught hold of a stranger, tied him to a tree and thrashed him black and blue, before Srikalahasthi police took him into their custody.
Speaking to Express, Tirupati Urban SP J Prabhakara Rao said that the villagers found a stranger in their village and surrounded him thinking to him to be the 'psycho'. Giving support to their doubt, the person did not reply to questions hurled by the villagers.
"After listening to his words, we understood that he belongs to Maharashtra state as he was speaking only in Marathi and brought a person who knew Marathi well and questioned the stranger. The stranger revealed his name as Shankar and added that he along with three others from their village in Maharashtra were on a pilgrimage to Tirumala and he had got separated from his co-pilgrims at the Tirupati railway station.
Later, he caught another train and reached Srikalahasthi and is searching for his friends.
When police contacted the mobile number given by Shankar, the call was answered by Shankar's friends who informed that they were on Tirumala and would meet Shankar after coming down from Tirumala, the SP explained.
