Alwar: Days after a mob attacked dairy farmer Pehlu Khan and his relatives in Alwar's Bahror leading to Khan's death, the villagers are not willing to believe what happened.
CNN-News18 travelled to the village of the two accused. We first went to the college where the main accused Vipin Yadav studies. Vipin also happens to be the Students' president of the college, despite being in the first year.
The vice principal of the college, Brij Kishore, said it is very unlikely of Vipin to get involved in any such activity.
"Vipin Yadav was a good student in terms of behavior. We never received any complaint against him. Don't know how regular he was in his classes, that his teachers only can tell. But I never received any complaint," said the vice principal.
On being asked how did he come to know about the incident, the Principal said: "media".
Within 500 metres' radius of the college is Vipin's house. There's a poster as well outside his house, probably from the days of his campaign for presidential post.
Vipin's mother, also the sarpanch, hasn't eaten anything for the last three days since his arrest .
She said she was aware of the incident. In fact, the day the incident happened, Vipin told his mother that cattle smugglers were caught today and were beaten as well. But he never told he was also part of the mob or the main accused in the case, as mentioned by the police.
His mom, Preity, said Vipin believes in 'gau dharm'. When she was asked what is meant by Gau dharm, she said, those who love cows, and can't bear cow trafficking and slaughtering.
Vipin was picked up by police soon after he started for home post his college examination.
Although she believes Vipin is innocent, she accepts the fact that Vipin could be seen in the video.
But the entire family believes in service to cows - Gau seva, Gau dharm.
Vipin's uncle, Desh Raj Yadav, thinks Vipin must have got excited seeing the mob and he must have tried to stop the smugglers from fleeing. He insists on the fact that Khan and group were not even having the transit papers.
But if police are to be believed, Vipin and Golu are the main accused.
SP Alwar, Rahul Prakash, told CNN-News18: "Vipin and Golu are the main accused. They were following Khan's vehicle on a bike."
Reasoning what Vipin did was right, his mother said, "Somehow the cow smugglers had to be stopped, by beating them up or by any other way. They were cow smugglers after all."
On being asked if she ever felt guilty that a man lost his life because of the mob attack which also involved his eldest son, she firmly said , "The family will have to suffer if they (smugglers) do anything wrong."
On the other side of the village lives Ravindra's family, another accused in the case. Ravindra is a compounder in the Kailash hospital. "There's no evidence against my brother. He is innocent. It's just that police are unable to find the actual accused they have arrested my brother," said Ravindra's brother Rakesh.
Interestingly, he went a step ahead in defending his brother and said Khan didn't die of thrashing but of heart attack.
That man was not beaten up, all this despite the video evidence.
