Though, most students are celebrating Onam at home with their near and dear ones, a batch of 650 NCC cadets are mixing patriotism with the festival at the ongoing Combined Annual Training Camp of 21 Kerala NCC Battalion, Ernakulam, at the Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery.

Though, most students are celebrating Onam at home with their near and dear ones, a batch of 650 NCC cadets are mixing patriotism with the festival at the ongoing Combined Annual Training Camp of 21 Kerala NCC Battalion, Ernakulam, at the Government Polytechnic College, Kalamassery. Students from 10 colleges and 14 schools from Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam and Alappuzha are taking part in the camp organised by Lt Col N T Jose, Commanding Officer, 21 Kerala Bn NCC. Contests in cultural activities and sports are being held along with seminars and classes on personality development and career guidance. Guest lectures, cyber crime awareness classes and legal awareness classes are also being given. Training, classes  and contest will be given a small break on Wednesday as the camp will be organising Onam celebration. “We will have the scheduled sports contests till 9 am and after breakfast till noon its time for students to unwind. They have come up with many initiatives.

Thiruvathirakali, best in traditional wear and other innovative programmes will be held. A ‘pookalam’ contest will also be held in which around 20 teams are expected to participate. This will be followed by a sumptuous Onam feast with ‘palada prathaman’ and ‘gothambu payasam’,” said Lt Col N T Jose. After an hour-long break, it will be movie time. War movies, motivational movies and entertainment movies will be shown. This will be followed by the institution-wise cultural contests which are part of the camp till 10 pm. Training in firing, weapons,

map reading is being given. Francis Pereira, SI,Cyber Crime Investigation Cell, Kochi, conducted a power point presentation on cyber crime. A class on road safety was taken by Motor Vehicle Inspector Adarshkumar. The prize distribution ceremony and campfire will be held on August 31. The 10-day camp will end on September 2.
