Melbourne: The Indian challenge in the men's doubles event at the Australian Open ended on Wednesday with Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy losing to the big serving Ivo Karlovic and Dusan Vemic in the quarter-finals.
Paes and his Czech Republic partner Dlouhy lost to Ivo Karlovic (Croatia) and Dusan Vemic (Serbia) in straight sets. The match ended 6-3, 6-4 in Karlovic and Vemic's favour.
Karlovic and Vemic will face Canada's Daniel Nestor and Serbia's Nenad Zimonjic advanced in the semi-finals.
Nestor and Zimonjic defeated France's Arnaud Clement and Jonathan Erlich of Israel in their quarter-final match 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (8-6).
Paes is, however, still in the race for the mixed doubles title where he is the top seed with partner Cara Black.
Paes and Cara entered the semi-finals at the mixed doubles defeating Elena Vesnina and Andy Ram in the quarter- final winning 6-4, 6-3.
