ROURKELA: Agitating employees of the defunct refractory plant Orind shifted their agitation from NH-23 to the plant at Lathikata on Saturday mid-night. In a protest meeting on Sunday, the agitators castigated the management and reiterated their demands for immediate payment of workers’ outstanding dues and restoration of production in the plant. On Saturday the agitators, consisting of employees and their families, paralysed traffic on the highway for over 12 hours.The highway blockade ended at around 1 am after DIG (WR) Y K Jethwa impressed upon the agitators to call off the stir citing public inconvenience. Collector Rupa Roshan told this paper that the administration had communicated to the agitators that the Orind management was expected to make a part payment at the office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner here on Monday. The agitators have decided to continue the stir in front of the plant gate and wait till Monday evening before deciding on the next course of action.
