BANGALORE: The High Court on Thursday issued notice to the State Government stating communities should not instal any statues or construct any buildings which shows religion in public places.The petition was filed stating that the portrait of Sage Valmiki had stirred up controversy at Yelavar village in Jevargi taluk of Gulbarga district. The controversy was triggered when members of the Valmiki community put a picture of the sage under a board of a public platform.The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna, issued notice to the State Government. PIL on land scam dismissedThe High Court on Thursday dismissed as withdrawn the PIL filed by a retired Indian Navy medical officer alleging huge land scam at Girinagar V Phase, involving former president of Viswabharathi House Building Society B Krishna Bhat, in association with other persons, including two senior advocates of the state.The former Chief Justice J S Khehar on August 11 had directed the petitioner to submit all relevant documents to the court.The petitioner Kota Subramanya Naidu had submitted 2,500 pages of documents in the court. The division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Vikramajit Sen and Justice A S Bopanna, heard the petition.The petitioner alleged that the former president of the society had encroached on the properties belonging to BDA in Girinagar V Phase and had sold them without titles between 1985 to 2009. Naidu further argued before the court that the former president had cheated more than 9,000 families and the land scam runs up to the tune of Rs 540 crore.
