Hyderabad: A family court has ordered the eighth Nizam of Hyderabad Prince Mukarram Jah to pay $700,000 to his estranged third wife and former Miss Turkey, Manolya Omur, towards Mehr (alimony).
As per the divorce settlement decreed by the court on Monday, Jah, who lives in Turkey, has to pay $15,000 per month towards maintenance of Manolya and her daughter.
The Prince will also have to pay $300,000 with interest from February 10, 1995 towards the loan he had taken from his third wife, Manolya's counsel S H Prasad said.
The Nizam and Manolya had got married in 1989 and divorced five years later in 1994. In an agreement signed in Switzerland, the Nizam had agreed to pay her maintenance. Manolya claims he was not doing it.
A former Miss Turkey, Manolya was 36 when she married the then 58-year-old Nizam. She has a daughter from the Nizam. The Nizam had gifted his daughter a palace near Hyderabad, but only on the condition that her mother would not live there with her.
