New Delhi: A near collision between a Go Air aircraft and an Indian Air Force plane was avoided at last moment at the IGI airport on Wednesday. At 2 o'clock, Go Air flight 336 from Delhi to Mumbai was given go ahead by the ATC to depart. But at the same time an IAF plane was on the same runway and was moving from runway to go towards technical area.
Sources at ATC say the message that was sent got masked by another transmission and never reached the IAF pilot. It was only after the Go Air pilot saw an obstruction that the take-off was aborted.
It is still not clear if the ATC had in fact alarmed the air force pilot or given a go ahead to both at the same time.
The DGCA has ordered an inquiry into the incident and is waiting for report by ATC to determine what exactly happened. According to unconfirmed reports, the air force has also ordered an independent inquiry.
The incident took place after the President Pranab Mukherjee's flight took off for Europe. There was a lot of congestion due to the backlog and several aircraft were in line to be cued for take off.
